Practice Orthodontists

DSO has over 20 staff members including 4 Orthodontists.

Dr Liz Hopkins, BDS, FDS, RCS Ed, DDO RCPS

Registered Specialist in Orthodontics.

Liz graduated in Dentistry from The University of Birmingham in 1980. She then worked initially at The Birmingham Dental Hospital, followed by Burton on Trent District and General Hospitals in the Oral and Maxillofacial departments and later as a Registrar at the Birmingham Children's Hospital. During this time she studied for the Fellowship in Dental Surgery which she gained from The Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1984.

A further period of training was undertaken to achieve the Diploma in Dental Orthopaedics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1986. Moving to the South West later in 1986 she took over an established Specialist Orthodontic Practice, the practice has grown considerably since the 80’s and now has 18 team members at two separate practices.

Locally she is a Member of South Devon's Local Orthodontic Committee and of the Peninsula Orthodontic Study Group.

She is also a member of the Orthodontic Specialists Group of British Orthodontic Society, an International Member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the World Federation of Orthodontists. She has a strong ongoing commitment to continuing professional development worldwide to ensure provision of the most advanced Orthodontic treatment available.

She is involved in training dental nurses for radiographic and orthodontic nurses certificates and dental practitioners who have an interest in orthodontics. She lectures to study groups and  PCTs and welcomes pupils from local schools to attend for work experience.

Liz is an Associate Fellow at Warwick University.

She has an interest in facial aesthetics and is currently undertaking a study into post treatment changes in early adulthood following extraction and non extraction treatment.
